Product Dropdown Box

Sep 25, 2009 at 9:50 PM

I love the product.  When I run the application, the dropdown box for the version of VS says SnippetEditor.Utility.Product.  There are two listings of the same thing.  When I select the second one, I get an unhandled exception.

System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

Do I need to make some registry edits?

I did some more digging and I found that the problem is related to the Managed JScript and Python languages.  The registry entries don't seem to exists for these two languages so the code is erroring when it tries to look them up.  I adjusted the source code to avoid the errors and now I get two folders labeled 131 in Snippet Editor, but everything is working otherwise.

More digging revealed it's because I have the ASP.Net Futures May 2007 installed.  Uninstall it and all is well.
